New Gel Could Help Re-Grow Brain Cells

Scientists at Clemson University said they have developed a gel that can help re-grow brain tissue lost in traumatic injuries. The “biomaterial” is made of both synthetic and natural sources and has the potential to initiate the growth of a patient’s own neural stem cells in the body that can structurally repair the brain injury site, the scientists said in a statement.

A firm that provides the technology of charging electrical and electronic products wirelessly has predicted that mobile phones and laptops would do away with power cords within a year. WiTricity CEO Eric Giler said wireless transfer of electricity will soon be commercially available as the company is close to fine-tuning its capability to convert electricity into a magnetic field that could then be sent through the air on a certain frequency.

The Internet Celebrates 40th Birthday

Tuesday marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of the Internet in a lab at the University of California, Los Angeles. The 226 million websites now dotting the World Wide Web was an offshoot of an experiment by 20 UCLA engineers, who passed meaningless data from two computers 15 feet apart through a grey cable connection on September 2, 1969. Those two computers were the earliest network then called Advanced Research Projects Agency Network or ARPANET

More Than 150 Take On Elements For World Bog Snorkeling Championship

Over 150 people showed up for the annual World Bog Snorkeling Championship in Wales for a chance to race in a pair of 60-year trenches. Organizer Gordon Green, 74, took part for the first time since he inaugurated the event more than 20 years ago in an attempt to put his town on the tourist map, England’s Times reported.

German Court Lets Boy Be Named "Jihad"

A German court has ruled that a suspected terrorist can name his son Djehad, the German word for jihad or holy war. The upper regional court in Berlin upheld Tuesday the rulings of two lower courts allowing Egyptian-German Reda Seyam, 49, to name his four-year-old son Djehad on grounds that it is a common Arabic name for males.

Florida police arrested a man Friday that allegedly tried to get a kiss from the bank teller, along with the loot. After allegedly attacking a Bank of America security guard outside of the bank, Fort Lauderdale police say Deatrick Daniel, 27, ran into the bank building and struggled with the bank manager, who was trying to call 911, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported
